Wandering around, is something I do, think of it as a form of urban exploring, and yes this is something I have done all over the planet.

Now before anyone reminds me, that this is not something which can be done safely, just anywhere, but Singapore is one of the exceptions, and after many visits over many years I have had zero issues while wandering around, all over the island.

That said, I am always aware of my surroundings and before taking photos of anything other than public areas, especially with any sort of religious or government buildings.

This first photo, was taken while I was walking around chinatown, and spotted these stunning shophouses out of the corner of my eye, which just drew me in.

The result, I was standing in full sun, in the middle of the day, on a traffic island using a tripod mounted DSLR, and waiting for the traffic to cooperate. And yes I got some interesting "crazy tourist" looks from some of the locals.

One thing to note when wandering around in singapore, is to look up, just look at this photo, when walking at ground level, its just a row of shops, but look up and there's the money shot, in this case stunning examples of highly decorated shophouses.

This next one, I found by accident while returning to the hotel from Sim Lim Square, and needing food, so while heading for Maccas, I followed my own advice and looked up. The result this row of shophouses, just not like any I had seen before this, these have balconies.

So after fuelling up at Maccas, I carried on heading for the hotel, but again got distracted, by the rear of those shophouses, which where unlike any I had seen elseware. And yes I got some even stranger looks than I got while shooting the street art in chinatown and little india.
